She is a Masterpiece

slide3
For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.
Ephesians 2:10
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
Psalm 139:13-24

One of the things that my husband is most peeved by is how critical I can be of myself and how my self-esteem isn’t always as through the roof as he thinks it should be.

There are so many things to be critical of though! When I look in the mirror I can point out a million flaws, a million things I wish were different. Every time I put on a pair of jeans, I’m reminded that I don’t have any womanly hips to hold them up. When I put on a bathing suit I’m reminded that I don’t have much in the boob department to really fill it in. When I’m putting on my makeup I’m reminded of every new wrinkle. When I do my hair I’m reminded that I’m not good at it and that I’ll never get it to look like hers.

I mean, really, what is wrong with me?!

Where does this nasty narrative come from? I know it’s there. I don’t want it to be there. Often times, I forget what to do about it.

Let’s reverse this nasty narrative, ladies! Let’s remember who we really are!

A MADE Woman is a masterpiece; God’s masterpiece!

No detail of who she is was an accident! Every part of her being:

her hips that are too big or too small

her wrinkles that are too deep or too numerous

her hair that is too flat, too gray, too dull

her skin that is too dry, too oily, too blemished

her breasts that are too small, too saggy, too big

every single part of her was carefully crafted by her Maker.

She looks around at creation…

at the sunset

the blooming rose

the vast oceans

the highest mountain peaks…

and she knows that God’s works are wonderful and she believes it about herself too!

Yes yes yes!! This reminds me of a story I heard on the radio one day and I have never forgotten it. It had you imagine that your child or someone you loved had brought you a drawing. That he/she had spent so much time creating this drawing and getting it just perfect. Then when they brought it to you, you crumbled it up and said “I don’t like that!” That broke my heart to even imagine saying that to one of my children about their creation. Well we are God’s masterpieces. His beautiful works or art. His most perfect creations. And as you said we know that God’s works are WONDERFUL. So when we are hard on ourselves we are saying that God’s artwork is less than perfect. Well we know that can’t be true! Thank you for this! We all need a reminder.
